Say Hello to Leo: A Bold New Restaurant & Bar

April 17, 2025

Announcing Leo, Opening Later This Spring

We’ve got big news—really delicious news. In collaboration with our partners at Rhubarb Hospitality Collection, we’re opening Leo, a brand-new restaurant and bar right inside the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, landing in spring 2025.

Named after the legendary Leopold Stokowski, former music director of The Philadelphia Orchestra, Leo is all about breaking the mold—just like its namesake. Think bold flavors, a vibrant vibe, and a space that feels just as perfect for a casual hangout as it does for a special night out.

Every part of the experience—from the food to the atmosphere—celebrates creativity, community, and the unique spirit of this city.

A Fresh Take on Dining in Philly

At Leo, there’s no need to wait for a special occasion. Whether you're grabbing cocktails before seeing a performance, enjoying a laid-back dinner with friends, or celebrating something big, Leo offers an elevated-yet-easygoing experience that fits any mood.

Expect creative, seasonal dishes by Executive Chef Chris Cryer, crafted with the same passion and precision that fills our concert halls. From the buzz of the open kitchen to the cozy bar and lounge, every detail is designed to feel welcoming, warm, and full of personality.

Where Great Food Meets Great Music

Much like the “Philadelphia Sound” that made our Philadelphia Orchestra famous around the world, Leo is all about freedom, flavor, and flair. It's a place where culinary creativity takes center stage, and every night feels like the right night to indulge. As Ryan Fleur, our interim president and CEO, put it:

We’re beyond excited to bring Leo to life with Rhubarb Hospitality Collection. Every part of the experience—from the food to the atmosphere—celebrates creativity, community, and the unique spirit of this city.”

So whether you're in the neighborhood, heading to a show, or just craving something amazing, Leo will be your new go-to dining spot in Center City.

Where is it?

The restaurant is centrally located along a blossoming corridor of Spruce Street, just steps from the iconic Avenue of the Arts, and right around the corner from the historic Academy of Music and Miller Theater. In a city celebrated for its incredible dining scene built on restaurants that are at once world-class and neighborhood staples, Leo will be a welcome addition for locals and visitors alike!

What are the Hours?

When Leo opens later this spring, the hours will be as follows:

  • Wednesday – Sunday, 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Initially Leo will be open 5 nights a week, Wednesday through Sunday, with additional days and services added in the coming months. On performance nights, Leo will be open for a pre-show dinner, allowing guests to savor an artfully prepared meal before immersing themselves in an unforgettable evening of music and performance.

Who is Leopold Stokowski?

Leopold Stokowski was the visionary music director of The Philadelphia Orchestra from 1912 to 1941. A revolutionary talent, he embraced new techniques in conducting and encouraged a personalized style among his players, laying the groundwork for the famous Philadelphia Sound. He experimented with seating arrangements and hall acoustics; was a lifelong champion of contemporary composers, giving numerous premieres throughout his long career; and introduced generations to classical music through the Disney film Fantasia  and hundreds of recordings. His innate talent, relentless work ethic, and charisma brought him much praise and popularity.

Drawing on Leopold Stokowski for inspiration, Leo will draw guests in with genuine warmth and hospitality, paired with an easy and familiar, yet elegantly nuanced, service style.
