TED Democracy Philadelphia: Founding Futures at Kimmel Center
March 10, 2026Philadelphia has always been a city that champions big ideas. In 2026, as we celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday in the place where it started, that legacy takes center stage during TED Democracy Philadelphia: Founding Futures at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
Hosted in the nation’s birthplace during Philly’s biggest year yet, the day-long event brings together bold thinkers, artists, civic leaders and storytellers to explore how democracy can and should evolve — and how Philadelphia continues to shape its future.
A City Built for the Conversation
From the founding of our nation in 1776 to today’s movements for equity and increased participation, Philadelphia has long been a testing ground for democratic ideas.
TED Democracy Philadelphia: Founding Futures builds on that history with a day filled with brand-new TED Talks, performances and conversations that examine where democracy has been — and where it’s headed next.
Expect speakers and performers who challenge assumptions, spark dialogue and invite audiences to imagine what’s possible when civic life is participatory, creative, inclusive and solutions-oriented.
What to Expect at Founding Futures
The day-long program creates space for inspiration, reflection and action. In addition to 15-plus brand-new TED Talks inside Marian Anderson Hall, attendees can look forward to immersive activations designed to challenge and inspire, speaker meetups, flash conversations on the PEW Spotlight Stage, and curated culinary experiences.
Whether you’re a policy wonk, an artist, a student, conservative, liberal, or somewhere in between … or you’re simply curious about the future of democracy, the event welcomes anyone ready to listen, learn and participate.
