ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
COMEDIAN, AUTHOR, PRODUCER, AND
PUBLIC SPEAKING COACH,
DAVID NIHILL,
WITH HIS INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED
SHELF HELP TOUR,
MARCH 6, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (February 3, 2025) – Ensemble Arts Philly presents the clever and light-hearted Irish comedian, David Nihill, in his Shelf Help Tour, coming to the Perelman Theater on March 6, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. Known for his clever observations and charismatic stage presence, Nihill has captivated audiences worldwide with his sharp wit, storytelling prowess, and relatable humor.
Leaving Dublin, Ireland, where he was born and raised until the age of 22, Nihill got drunk on travel and never quite hit sobriety. He has lived and worked in twelve countries and visited over seventy. Nihill’s shows draw on his wide travels, cultural observations, attempts at language study, (occasional) international drinking session(s), and being a mildly confused immigrant.
"The Shelf Help Tour is comedy at its finest – a show where stand-up meets self-discovery, delivered by a master of the craft," said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. "Nihill’s ability to connect with international audiences through humor and personal storytelling makes him a standout talent in today's comedy landscape, as well as a welcome addition to a full spring comedy lineup brimming with speakers across cultural backgrounds and perspectives.”
Nihill is one of the smartest and funniest comics in the US today, named to the 2017 Irish America 100 List, which recognizes the accomplishments of the best and brightest Irish-American and Irish-born leaders. He is the winner of the prestigious annual San Francisco Comedy Competition (previous finalists include Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, and Dana Carvey) and runner-up in the Moth’s largest US Grand Slam storytelling competition. Also, a bestselling writer, Nihill recorded his debut special for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019 and has been featured on TED.com, Sirius XM, Just for Laughs, Netflix is a Joke Festival, as well as in The Irish Independent, Inc; NPR; and the Huffington Post, among others. A festival favorite, Nihill’s videos have also gone viral many times with over 500 million views and a social following of over 1.9 million people. Nihill lectures internationally and is a sought-after speaker on global travel and storytelling. He released his debut special for Dry Bar Comedy in 2019, and his YouTube special Cultural Appreciation was released in June 2023.
Other featured upcoming performances include Sam Morril: The Errors Tour (February 6, 2025, Miller Theater); Vitamin String Quartet: The Music of Taylor Swift, Bridgerton, and Beyond (February 12, 2025, Miller Theater); Pink Sweat$: Welcome Home Tour (February 14, 2025, Miller Theater); Killers of Kill Tony (March 1, 2025, Miller Theater); Sheng Wang (March 7, 2025, Miller Theater); Sh!t-faced Shakespeare®: Much Ado About Nothing (March 8, 2025, Perelman Theater); An Evening with David Sedaris (April 5, 2025, Miller Theater); It Is What It Is Live Featuring Ma$e, Cam and Stat (April 10, 2025, Academy of Music); and Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny (June 23, 2025, Miller Theater).
