ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY, IN ASSOCIATION WITH
WESTBETH ENTERTAINMENT, PRESENTS
EDDIE IZZARD'S SOLO PERFORMANCE OF

SHAKESPEARES HAMLET
AT THE SUZANNE ROBERTS THEATRE,
MARCH 4 – 8, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 26, 2026– Ensemble Arts Philly, in association with WestBeth Entertainment, presents Eddie Izzard’s solo performance of Shakespeare's Hamlet at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre from March 48, 2026. Following her triumphant triple-extended New York run, a box office record-breaking run at the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, and a six-week London run which Dame Judi Dench called “spectacular” and sold out runs in San Francisco and Seattle, Izzard brings her rendition of Hamlet to Philadelphia.

The King of Denmark is dead, and Prince Hamlet is determined to take revenge, initiating a cascade of events that will destroy both family and state. Izzard’s very unique re-telling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet sees her embody 23 characters, from men and women to ghosts, scholars, tyrants, courtiers, lovers, and fools.

Known as an actor, multi-lingual comedian, multi-marathon runner, and activist, Eddie Izzard’s career pushes boundaries and defies description with record-breaking tours and critically acclaimed film, TV, and theater performances. Hamlet marks Izzard’s second solo show following her sold-out run of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, which played to rave reviews in NY and at The Garrick Theatre in London’s West End.

Part of our robust 2026 spring season, Ensemble Arts Philly is honored to present the Philadelphia premiere of Eddie Izzard’s extraordinary and highly lauded Hamlet,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “This bold and deeply human interpretation reimagines a timeless Shakespearean work through a singular artistic lens, encouraging audiences to experience a classic story in new and unexpected ways.”

The design team for Hamlet consists of Tom Piper (set), Tyler Elich with Anthony Forchielli (lighting), Eliza Thompson (music), Tom Piper and Libby DaCosta (costume stylists), and Didi Hopkins (Movement Director). The show is produced by WestBeth Entertainment, Mick Perrin Worldwide, and John Gore.

Hamlet is adapted by Mark Izzard and directed by Selina Cadell, with whom Eddie Izzard also collaborated on the highly successful Great Expectations.
