ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY
CELEBRATES A HISTORY OF JAZZ WITH
EMMET COHEN: MILES AND COLTRANE AT 100,
MARCH 20, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 26, 2026) – Ensemble Arts Philly presents acclaimed American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen in Miles and Coltrane at 100, a dynamic celebration of the 100th birthdays of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. This performance takes place at the Miller Theater on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. and is part of Ensemble Arts Philly’s 202526 Jazz Series.

Cohen will be joined by saxophonist Tivon Pennicott and trumpeter Jeremy Pelt to honor the centennials of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Together, a dynamic quintet will perform a wide-ranging selection of works made famous throughout the legendary careers of both artists, spanning their groundbreaking collaborations in the First Great Quintet and their later individual masterpieces. Audiences can expect an evening of exceptional artistry as five of today’s leading jazz musicians bring fresh energy, style, and elegance to some of the most iconic American music ever written.

“Ensemble Arts Philly champions jazz in Philadelphia, supporting local and emerging artists through showcases and education programs, and through a robust annual jazz lineup that celebrates the past while looking to artists of the future,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “In Miles and Coltrane at 100, Cohen and his collaborators honor two jazz giants, sharing the timelessness of each man’s work through the lens of today’s talent. We are excited to welcome Emmet back to Philadelphia for this concert.”

Emmet Cohen is one of his generation’s most pivotal figures in jazz and the broader musical arts. Leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio and creator of the Masters Legacy Series, Cohen is an internationally acclaimed jazz artist and dedicated educator whose artistry has taken him to venues and festivals in over 30 countries. He was the winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards and a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition. He headlines regularly at Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Village Vanguard, and Birdland, and has appeared at the Newport Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, and North Sea Jazz Festival, among others.

Cohen’s entrepreneurial energies led to his developing Live from Emmet's Place, a live-streamed Harlem rent party that unites a worldwide audience via tens of millions of internet views. In addition to leading the Emmet Cohen Trio, he has appeared regularly with Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Jimmy Heath, Tootie Heath, Houston Person, Kurt Elling, Billy Hart, and Brian Lynch, among others.

Other featured upcoming performances in the 2025-26 Jazz Series include Endea Owens & The Cookout (March 28, 2026, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center); Christian McBride & Edgar Meyer (April 21, 2026, Miller Theater); WXPN Welcomes Rhiannon Giddens (May 5, 2026, Miller Theater); and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (May 26, 2026, Marian Anderson Hall inside the Kimmel Center).
