MARCH 28, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (January 26, 2026) – Ensemble Arts Philly is thrilled to present GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Endea Owens and her ensemble, The Cookout, in the Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. Endea Owens and The Cookout will bring a joyful fusion of jazz, soul, and global influences, creating a feel-good atmosphere that will captivate audiences, as a part of Ensemble Arts’ 2025–26 Jazz Series.

Known as one of jazz’s most vibrant emerging artists, Endea Owens is a Detroit-raised recording artist, bassist, and composer. She has been mentored by legendary jazz figures including Marcus Belgrave, Rodney Whitaker, and Ron Carter, and has toured and performed with an impressive range of artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Jennifer Holliday, Diana Ross, Rhonda Ross, Solange, Jon Batiste, Jazzmeia Horn, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Cyrus Chestnut, among others.

In 2018, Owens graduated from The Juilliard School and joined The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as a member of the house band, Stay Human. Since then, she has earned an Emmy Award, a GRAMMY® Award, and a George Foster Peabody Award. Her work has appeared on Jon Batiste’s GRAMMY® Award-winning album We Are, the Oscar-nominated film Judas and the Black Messiah, and H.E.R.’s widely acclaimed Super Bowl LV performance.

Every year, Ensemble Arts Philly’s jazz series celebrates world-class artistry and creates moments of connection on our stages,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “This spring, Endea Owens joins the season lineup of artists who – despite varying ages, backgrounds, and instruments – are connected by a thread of jazz innovation and shared passion.”

Other featured upcoming performances in the 2025–26 Jazz Series include Christian McBride & Edgar Meyer (April 21, 2026, Miller Theater); WXPN Welcomes Rhiannon Giddens (May 5, 2026, Miller Theater); and Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (May 26, 2026, Marian Anderson Hall inside the Kimmel Center).

An uplifting mix of jazz, gospel and neo-soul energy.

DownBeat

Fierce, catchy, head-bobbing groove.

NPR

A knockout. Springloaded, riff-driven groove. Owens is doing the same thing with soul music that the golden age jazz artists did with showtunes.
