ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
ACCLAIMED COMEDIAN
GARY GULMAN IN GRANDILOQUENT
FOR THREE HILARIOUS SHOWS,
NOVEMBER 14 & 15, 2025
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 2, 2025) – Ensemble Arts Philly presents Gary Gulman: Grandiloquent at the Perelman Theater in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for three shows on November 14 and 15, 2025. Audiences can expect a hilarious new show about insecurity, empathy, self-acceptance, and how a thoughtful boy learned to use humor, reading, and writing to cope with the consequences of his parents' blunders.
With over 30 years in comedy, Gary Gulman has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. He has made countless television appearances as a comedian and actor. Most recently, Gulman made his off-Broadway debut with a five-week sold-out run at The Lucille Lortel Theatre of his critically acclaimed one-man show, Grandiloquent, directed by Tony Award winner Moritz von Stuelpnagel and produced by Mike & Carlee Productions (Oh, Mary!).
“Grandiloquent is heartbreakingly honest and refreshingly candid, walking audiences back fifty years through Gary Gulman’s childhood traumas and triumphs,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “We’re excited to present this off-Broadway hit in our intimate Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center, a wonderful home to many of our speaker, comedy, dance, and educational presentations.”
Gulman has made five masterful TV specials, including his most recent universally acclaimed stand-up special for HBO Max, Born on 3rd Base, lending his meticulous comedic craft to the current Tale of Two Cities-esque wealth gap, and The Great Depresh, a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019, he appeared in the international blockbuster Joker. He can most recently be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the hit Hulu comedy series Life & Beth.
Gulman's memoir, Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the '80s, released in September 2023, focused on his life from kindergarten through 12th grade. Amy Schumer called the book "laugh out loud funny and heartfelt,” and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Adrian Nicole LeBlanc found it "exquisite, love-affirming and generous."
Other featured upcoming performances include Kevin Bridges (October 3, 2025, Miller Theater); TwoSet Violin (October 7, 2025, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center); Nate Smith (October 11, 2025, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center); Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson: The Cosmic Perspective (October 20, 2025, Marian Anderson Hall inside the Kimmel Center); Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny (November 6, 2025, Miller Theater); The Moth Mainstage (November 7, 2025, Miller Theater); Asi Wind: More Than Magic (November 8, 2025, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center); An Evening with Samara Joy (November 11, 2025, Miller Theater); Guenther Steiner: Unfiltered LIVE (November 13, 2025, Miller Theater); Whitney Cummings: Big Baby (November 22, 2025, Miller Theater); The Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show (November 29, 2025, Miller Theater); PHILADANCO!
