DEBATING TO THE DEATH IN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (September 8, 2025) – Ensemble Arts Philly, in association with Live Nation, presents comedian friends (or archenemies?) Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng in HASAN HATES RONNY | RONNY HATES HASAN at the Miller Theater on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. During these divided times, many people believe that open dialogue and discourse are the only tools to mend a wounded nation. Hasan Minhaj and Ronny Chieng believe the opposite: Hatred is the answer.
This is not one of those tours where two friends co-headline a show so they can go on vacation together. Minhaj and Chieng despise one another. In 19 cities, they will air their grievances onstage at the same time, about America, each other, and each other’s entire family trees – for a paying audience.
The format? A debate to the death. Imagine CNN’s Presidential Townhall that’s somehow more demented and with less decorum. This will be a race to the bottom. Minhaj and Chieng will face off about America’s most urgent issues: presidents, war, the economy, immigration, infrastructure, food, dating, family values, and of course, the impending race war. This is not a call for peace. It’s a call for pettiness.
“This isn’t just a comedy show; it’s a cultural clash wrapped in punchlines,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “Minhaj and Chieng bring sharp insight, fearless humor, and just the right amount of chaos to the stage. Audiences should expect to laugh, squirm, and maybe even pick a side.”
Hasan Minhaj is a two-time Peabody Award-winning comedian best known for his breakout Netflix special Homecoming King and his critically acclaimed, political satire show Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj for Netflix which won a Peabody, an Emmy, and a Television Academy Honor. His second one-hour comedy special, The Kings Jester, premiered on Netflix in 2022. In October 2024, Minhaj released his third comedy special on Netflix, titled Off with His Head. In the show he covers themes including politics, parenting, and therapy with irreverent wit and insight. On Minhaj’s ongoing digital series and podcast, Hasan Minhaj Doesn't Know, he sits down with the biggest names in politics, culture, and tech with questions that are as thought provoking as they are absurd. In the debut episode, Minhaj spoke with Senator Elizabeth Warren, and he's also welcomed John M. Chu, JJ Redick, Bernie Sanders, and Stacey Abrams, among many others.
Minhaj was most recently seen in Sony's blockbuster film, It Ends With Us as well as in Neon's comedy Babes, directed by Pamela Aldon, with Illana Glazer and Michelle Buteau. He will next star in Disney's Tron: Ares that will be released theatrically in October 2025. Minhaj is the co-founder and chief executive officer of 186K Films, which is currently in development on their first feature film. Minhaj is co-writing the script with Prashanth Venkataramanujam and will star in the film. He was a senior correspondent at Comedy Central's The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and headlined the 2017 White House Correspondent's Dinner.
Ronny Chieng is an Emmy Award-winning stand-up comedian, actor, and host on The Daily Show. He starred in Crazy Rich Asians, Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Disney+’s American Born Chinese and Doogie Kamealoha, M.D., NBC's Young Rock, M3gan, Hulu's Interior Chinatown and Vacation Friends 2, and Lionsgate’s Joy Ride. He has three stand-up comedy specials on Netflix, including the recently released Ronny Chieng: Love to Hate It, which was named The New York Times 2024 Comedy Special of the Year. He will next be seen in the upcoming Peacock series The Miniature Wife. He was recently announced to voice the character of Khan in the King of the Hill revival for Hulu.
Other featured upcoming performances include Leanne Morgan: Just Getting Started (October 23–24, 2025, Miller Theater); Tasha & Naomi Live in Concert (October 25, 2025, Miller Theater); Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny (November 6, 2025, Miller Theater); The Moth Mainstage (November 7, 2025, Miller Theater); Asi Wind: More Than Magic (November 8, 2025, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center); Tom Papa: Grateful Bread Tour (November 8, 2025, Marian Anderson Hall inside the Kimmel Center); An Evening with Samara Joy (November 11, 2025, Miller Theater); Guenther Steiner: Unfiltered LIVE (November 13, 2025, Miller Theater); and Gary Gulman: Grandiloquent (November 14–15, 2025, Perelman Theater inside the Kimmel Center).
