ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
THE UPBEAT AND INFECTIOUS SOUND OF
HERB ALPERT & THE TIJUANA BRASS
& OTHER DELIGHTS,
MAY 15, 2025

Performing all of your favorite hit songs
just the way you remember in a once-in-a-lifetime concert tour!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(April 24, 2025) – Ensemble Arts Philly presents the vibrant fusion of pop, jazz, and Latin sounds from Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass & Other Delights at the Miller Theater on May 15, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.

Herb Alpert recreates the iconic sound on the Tijuana Brass, who from their dazzling sweep of the 1967 GRAMMY® Awards with a “Taste of Honey” became the sound of the sixties and beyond. Hit after hit followed including “The Lonely Bull,” “Spanish Flea,” “Mexican Shuffle,” “Tijuana Taxi,” “Zorba the Green,” and more. These days the National Medal of Arts-awarded trumpeter, composer, and record label executive has plenty to celebrate: Alpert just turned 90 years old on March 31, he and his wife Lani are still celebrating their marriage of 50 years, and 2025 will mark the 60th anniversary of the Tijuana Brass album Whipped Cream & Other Delights.

A ticket to this concert is like an invitation to Alpert’s house for a trip down memory lane. As the band plays TJB hits live, a giant video screen will display hundreds of classic photos, videos, art, and various memorabilia from Alpert’s music career. Alpert will take questions from the audience, sharing memories of his performing career as well as his years as a tastemaker at the record label he founded in 1962, launching the careers of such hitmakers as Sergio Mendes & Brasil 66, The Carpenters, and Burt Bacharach. Don't miss this up-close-and-personal concert!

“Experiencing Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass is like opening a time capsule and inviting a piece of music history to come alive in front of you,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “We are excited to welcome back a legend of American music to Philadelphia.”

A legendary trumpet player, Herb Alpert’s extraordinary musicianship has earned him five #1 hits, nine GRAMMY® Awards, fifteen Gold albums, fourteen Platinum albums and he has sold over 72 million records worldwide. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass propelled his sound into the pop music limelight, at one point outselling The Beatles two to one. In 1966, they achieved the remarkable feat of simultaneously having four albums in the Billboard Top 10 and five in the Top 20.

Herb Alpert also has the distinction of being the only artist who has had a #1 instrumental (Rise) and a #1 vocal record (This Guy’s In Love With You). In 2016 the Herb Alpert Presents record label released 40 deluxe re-masters of the entire TJB catalogue plus all of Herb’s solo albums from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. In all, Alpert has recorded 50 albums and produced records for many other artists, including Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66, Stan Getz, Michel Colombier, Gato Barbieri and Alpert’s wife, GRAMMY-winning vocalist Lani Hall, to name a few.

In 1962 Alpert co-founded, with Jerry Moss, A & M Records, which introduced artists such as Carole King, Cat Stevens, The Carpenters, Sting, Janet Jackson, Peter Frampton, Quincy Jones, Joe Cocker, Sergio Mendes, Billy Preston, The Police, Sheryl Crow and so many other great artists.

Alpert is also a wonderful abstract painter and sculptor.

Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, Alpert and Hall have dedicated their lives to philanthropy, funding programs that help bring creativity to young students and keep creativity alive for all the arts and for artists young and old, including jazz education and programs that teach compassion and well-being.

Herb Alpert The Tijuana Brass & Other Delights is a part of Ensemble Arts Philly’s 2024-25 Jazz Series. What's most impressive and inspiring is that Alpert is still doing it, and also planning for the future.
