FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (August 25, 2026) – Ensemble Arts Philly, in association with SLP Concerts, presents 20-time Grammy Award winner Pat Metheny at the Miller Theater on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. Pat Metheny returns with his new ensemble Side-Eye III+, supporting the release of their self-titled album. Metheny's Side-Eye project is a concept he first introduced to showcase the next generation of exceptional young musicians who have come onto his radar. Joining Pat Metheny for this dynamic performance are pianist and keyboardist Chris Fishman, bassist Jermaine Paul, and drummer Joe Dyson.

"Few artists have had a greater impact on contemporary jazz and modern guitar than Pat Metheny," said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. "For more than five decades, he has continually expanded the possibilities of his art through innovation, curiosity, and extraordinary musicianship, inspiring generations of performers along the way. Ensemble Arts Philly is committed to presenting artists whose work shapes the future of their field while continuing to captivate audiences in the present. Pat Metheny and Side-Eye III+ embody that spirit of creative exploration, pairing one of music's most influential voices with an exceptional group of emerging musicians in a performance that bridges generations of artistry."

Pat Metheny has stood at the forefront of modern music for more than five decades. Beginning on trumpet at age eight and switching to guitar at twelve, Metheny was performing with Kansas City's top jazz musicians by fifteen, an early start that helped shape his unmistakable sound. After joining vibraphonist Gary Burton's group in 1974, Metheny's horn-like phrasing, lyrical touch, and rhythmic fluidity quickly distinguished him. His debut album, Bright Size Life, redefined the possibilities of jazz guitar by introducing a new sonic openness and melodic clarity that inspired generations of players.

With more than 20 million albums sold and 20 Grammy Awards spanning ten categories, a record unmatched by any other artist, Metheny's influence extends across genres and generations. His collaborations span from Steve Reich and Ornette Coleman to Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Milton Nascimento, and David Bowie. His compositions encompass everything from solo guitar works and orchestral pieces to the groundbreaking Orchestrion project.

A dedicated educator, Metheny became the youngest instructor in the history of both University of Miami and Berklee College of Music, where he later received honorary doctorate degrees. He is a member of the Downbeat Hall of Fame, a NEA Jazz Master, and an inductee of both the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and the Missouri Hall of Fame
.
