Ensemble Arts Philly Presents

Sh!t-faced Shakespeare

February 03, 2025

ENSEMBLE ARTS PHILLY PRESENTS
THE INTERNATIONAL IMPROV COMPANY,
SH!T-FACED SHAKESPEARE,
AND THEIR OUTRAGEOUS TWIST ON
MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING,
MARCH 8, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(February 3, 2025) – Ensemble Arts Philly presents the smash-hit, internationally acclaimed, award-winning, multi sell-out fringe phenomenon, Sh!t-faced Shakespeare®, with their version of Much Ado About Nothing at the Perelman Theater on March 8, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. Featuring a cast of classically trained actors, Sh!t-faced Shakespeare® is the unique theatrical experience that has left audiences roaring in the aisles the world over.

When the sinister Don John and his troupe of bachelor soldiers arrive in Messina, Sicily, love is in the air as old flames, Beatrice and Benedick, are re-ignited and new desires begin to burn. Maybe some hard liquor will help lubricate the process? Featuring Shakespeare’s most reluctant pair of lovers, villainous bastards, mistaken identities, faked deaths, sword fights, masque balls, and lots of lovely, lovely booze.

"Sh!t-faced Shakespeare’s take on Much Ado About Nothing blends the Bard's brilliance with unbridled 21st century hilarity, creating a theatrical event that is both unpredictable and uproariously fun,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “Each performance offers spirited improvisation and high-octane antics rooted in classic literature, bawdy humor, and delightful disorder."

Founded in 2010 in the UK and first arriving on US shores back in 2015, Sh!t-faced Shakespeare has delighted audiences from Boston to Austin and all over the States with their highfalutin cocktail of traditional Elizabethan theater and balls-to-the-wall drunken shenanigans. Accept no poor relations, pale imitations, or paltry recreations, see the authentic Sh!t-faced Shakespeare show which started it all.

Content Warning: The show features murder, treason, war, violence (personal, sexual, and national), suicide, regicide, incest, and blasphemy – and that is just the Shakespeare! Our drinking has been known to contribute to profanity and the occasionally bare butt-cheek. If any of this puts you off, maybe another show is more your speed.

Other featured upcoming performances include Sam Morril: The Errors Tour (February 6, 2025, Miller Theater); Vitamin String Quartet: The Music of Taylor Swift, Bridgerton, and Beyond (February 12, 2025, Miller Theater); Pink Sweat$: Welcome Home Tour (February 14, 2025, Miller Theater); Killers of Kill Tony (March 1, 2025, Miller Theater); David Nihill: Shelf Help Tour (March 6, 2025, Perelman Theater); Sheng Wang (March 7, 2025, Miller Theater); An Evening with David Sedaris (April 5, 2025, Miller Theater); It Is What It Is Live Featuring Ma$e, Cam and Stat (April 10, 2025, Academy of Music); and Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny (June 23, 2025, Miller Theater).
