Celebrate Lunar New Year with The Philadelphia Orchestra!
Ring in the Year of the Horse with a concert as spirited, bold, and adventurous as its namesake. This festive evening blends together the rich traditions of East and West, showcasing a vibrant blend of classical favorites and the distinctive colors of Chinese music.
Experience the evocative sounds of the pipa and erhu, traditional Chinese instruments, played by Zhang Hongyan and Yu Hongmei, respectively. Their artistry intertwines seamlessly with the Orchestra in Chinese works such as The String of the Heart and King Chu Doffs His Armor. The Orchestra embraces further Chinese music with the famous Spring Festival Overture. The program also features iconic classical works such as Holst’s “Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity” from The Planets and Copland’s exuberant “Hoe-Down” from Rodeo—pieces that capture the joyful, high-spirited atmosphere of the celebration.
Join us for this one-night-only musical journey and revel in a dynamic cross-cultural celebration of renewal, connection, and new beginnings.
