When was the last time you witnessed; strings, horns and piano at a Hip-Hop concert? Add to that, a party-rocking DJ, a soul-stirring female vocalist and a fire-breathing MC and that is still but a fraction of what you'll catch when you catch Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra in action! Founded in Philadelphia, Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra combines the raw energy and passion of Hip-Hop, with the beautiful sounds of orchestra accompaniment. The Illharmonic is just the 3rd Hip-Hop group to headline their own performance at Carnegie Hall. The crew will be bringing their usual brand of B-Boy Meets Beethoven to the stage for a special Juneteenth Online Performance.
The virtual streamed event will showcase lyrics, rhythm, and music which have historically been a source of healing and empowerment for African Americans. Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra use music to shine a spotlight on the importance of representation.
Black Lives have mattered since before slaves were brought to the shores of the US in 1619, until this very day. On June 19, 1865, General Order #3 was read, signifying the emancipation of the last slaves to be freed in the United States. This date is now known as Juneteenth. While we celebrate in this joyous occasion, we must always remember the horrific period in American History as a time never to be repeated. Part of our mission as The Illharmonic is to illuminate Representation in the Classical Music space and to provide opportunities for musicians of color that may not have otherwise existed. It is in that spirit that we present this Juneteenth Online Performance by Thee Phantom & The Illharmonic Orchestra. We hope you enjoy!
