FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (May 22, 2024) – Ensemble Arts Philly – the new presenting brand of the Kimmel Cultural Campus – in association with AEG Presents, welcomes Tony, Grammy, and Emmy award-winning singer, actor, and songwriter Ben Platt, and The Honeymind Tour, to the Academy of Music on June 21, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. Platt will be joined by special guest Brandy Clark, Grammy winner and songwriter for the Tony-winning Broadway musical, Shucked.
Platt’s new album, Honeymind, presents a lush and natural sound, leaning into Americana sonics. With the collaboration of GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Cobb and the talented producer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Alex Hope, the album showcases Platt in a light where he is more comfortable and authentic than ever. This project reflects a deep personal journey for Platt, offering listeners a chance to experience his musical evolution.
Platt, known for his riveting performance in Dear Evan Hansen and his dynamic role in Netflix's The Politician, brings his unmistakable voice and remarkable storytelling ability to the live stage once again. Most recently, Platt made his highly anticipated return to the stage as Leo Frank in Parade at New York City Center and then on Broadway. The riveting musical opened to rave reviews and led to Platt’s second Tony Award nomination. On the silver screen, Platt recently starred in the film Theater Camp, which is co-written by Platt, Molly Gordon, Noah Galvin, and Nick Lieberman and inspired by their popular 2020 short film of the same name.
“Ben Platt is immensely respected beyond the theater world for his ability to connect and captivate audiences with music,” said Frances Egler, Vice President of Theatrical Programming and Presentations. “We are excited to be one of the very first stops on The Honeymind Tour, so Philadelphia fans of his will not even have to wait an entire month before experiencing his album live in-person.”
An accomplished recording artist, Platt previously completed his multi-city Reverie Tour, which included sold-out stops at Madison Square Garden and The Hollywood Bowl. He has released two chart topping albums, Reverie and Sing to Me, instead.
Platt won the Tony® Award for Best Actor in a Musical for his groundbreaking performance as Evan in Dear Evan Hansen and later reprised his role in the Universal film adaptation with Julianne Moore and Amy Adams. He starred in the highly popular Netflix series by Ryan Murphy, The Politician, where he served as the executive producer on the series; his performance in Season 1 earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and the show received a nomination for Best Comedy.
Last fall, Platt was seen in the Amazon film, The People We Hate at The Wedding alongside Allison Janney and Kristen Bell. Other film and TV highlights include Pitch Perfect 1 & 2, Ricky & the Flash, The Premise, and a guest appearance on Will & Grace. Platt is starring alongside Beanie Feldstein in the film version of Merrily We Roll Along, which will be shot over a 20-year period, directed by Richard Linklater.
Honeymind will be released May 31 via Interscope Records. The North American tour will follow Platt’s exclusive concert residency at Broadway’s recently refurbished Palace Theatre.
